UFC ‘Contender Series’ results: Live stream play-by-play updates – Season 3, Ep. 9
The world’s “toughest job interview” continues this evening as 10 fighters “vie to fulfill their dreams of earning a UFC contract.”
We’re not over this week’s hump just yet, but there’s still cause for celebration. Dana White’s “Contender Series” once again returns to ESPN+ and Fight Pass tonight (Tues., Aug. 20, 2019) with 10 more ambitious up-and-comers looking for an Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) roster spot. Last week’s festivities saw three fighters secure UFC contracts and one other, main event winner William Knight, walk away with a developmental contract.

Leon Shahbazyan (7-1), brother of UFC prospect Edmen Shahbazyan, gets another shot after failing his medicals earlier this season ahead of a fight with Brok Weaver, challenging the six-fight win streak of Philip “The Fresh Prince” Rowe (6-2). Fans will also get to see The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 27 competitor Ricky Steele (5-0) face Ring of Combat Bantamweight champion Phil Caracappa (8-0).

The Draw

Many don’t realize, UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina “Bulletina” Shevchenko and Liz “Girlrilla” Carmouche have met before. In fact, Carmouche handed Shevchenko one of the three loses on her record. The fight took place nine years ago and both women were still in the very early stages of their careers and development as mixed martial artists. It was Shevchenko’s seventh pro fight and Carmouche’s fifth.

Since then, both women have gotten better in almost every way, and Shevchenko has established herself as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Her other two losses both came via decision to the greatest women’s MMA fighter in history, Amanda Nunes.

Saturday night’s fight represents an opportunity for Shevchenko to avenge one of her losses, and extend her reign as the queen of the flyweight division. Despite the victory Carmouche enjoyed over Shevchenko early in their careers, oddsmakers aren’t giving the challenger much of a chance to win again. Per MyBookie, Carmouche is a massive +700 underdog, and Shevchenko is a -1300 favorite.

The last time we saw Nate Diaz in the octagon he looked on as Conor McGregor had his hand raised in victory after their welterweight matchup at UFC 202. McGregor prevailed in that August 2016 bout via majority decision. On Saturday, after nearly three years without a fight, Diaz returns to action. He faces former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in the co-main event of the UFC 241 pay-per-view card, which takes place in Anaheim, California and will be shown on ESPN+.

The fight is not without an ugly backstory.

“We’ve just always had this drama,” Pettis told ESPN in May. “Every time we saw each other, something was going to happen. He might have been jealous I was the champ. He wanted his shot at me. He got his [Conor] McGregor fight and then went MIA. That chapter never closed in my life, so to me, this is something that had to happen.”

“I can’t wait to hurt this guy. This is a personal fight for me,” Pettis added. “This is one guy I just don’t like. Me and Diaz got problems. Now we can solve them.”

Pettis held the UFC lightweight title from August 2013 through March 2015, when he lost to Rafael dos Anjos. His record over his past ten fights is a disappointing 4-6. During that stretch the ex-champ has fought at lightweight, featherweight and welterweight. But he is coming off a March knockout win over former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson.

As for Diaz, in the “Countdown” video for the event, he referred to Pettis as the “Wheaties box dude.”

Watch UFC Live Stream Free

The UFC brings all the world’s best mixed martial artists together into a single octagon, but the organization’s broadcasts are hardly global. Broadcast rights are doled out to local TV channels and streaming websites in countries outside of the US.

As a result, some fights might be blacked out in certain countries. Fans who pay $10 per month for a Fight Pass subscription might be surprised to find out that they don’t necessarily have access to every live fight. The same goes for pay-per-view viewers. Blackout restrictions can vary from fight to fight and are tucked away in the fine print.

Fight Pass subscribers in a blacked out country or region who try to stream an event online are greeted with a message like this.

ou love the action and energy of UFC Fight Night, so you’re looking for the easiest and cheapest way to watch it online.

If you’ve done that search already, you may have come across a few websites advertising free streaming. Sounds perfect, right?

Not so much.

Free Streaming Websites Can be Dangerous
Free streaming sites are illegal and will likely install cookies and ad-trackers onto your computer. And some will even just let you watch a few seconds, and then cut the broadcast, and tell you that you need to register and download a program to watch the rest.

Who wants that kind of interruption when you’re in the middle of one of one of the most anticipated fights of the year? Plus, who knows what kind of malware may be lurking in that download.

That’s why we recommend that you stream from the UFC official site.

However, due to licensing deals with local broadcasters, some fights – often the biggest and most exciting ones – are blocked in certain countries.

Fortunately, you can easily bypass these restrictions with a VPN.

Plus, because UFC.TV charges different prices in different countries, even if you live in a country without any blocks, you can also use a VPN to find the cheapest prices on your Fight Pass and pay-per-view fights.

So even though it’s not free, we’ll show you how to bring the price down so you can save over 50% on viewing –in just 3 simple steps.

Use a VPN to Access UFC.TV from Anywhere
The UFC official site is an awesome resource to find out about your favorite fighters and the latest news in the world of MMA. And UFC.TV provides the simplest and safest way to livestream fights. If you’re a big fan and want access to lots of fights, you can get a Fight Pass (which includes a 7-day free trial!); but even if with that, the most highly anticipated fights still require a separate pay-per-view purchase.

That said (as mentioned above), many fights are blocked in certain countries. When users try to see the fight, they get this error message: “Due to broadcast restrictions, this video is not available within a UFC FIGHT PASS subscription or as a pay-per-view in your region. Please check your local TV listings for viewing information. This event is currently blocked in your region.”

Fortunately, getting passed this block is really easy with a VPN.

A VPN, or virtual private network, works by tunneling your internet traffic through a remote server before it reaches the website you want to go to. As it does this, your IP address gets changed from your real one to the one belonging to the server.

So if you’re in France, and you connect to a server in the US, UFC.TV will read your location as in the US, and you’ll get access to all the content someone there would. Pretty cool, right?

A VPN Can Save You a Lot of Money
It might not seem fair, but UFC.TV charges different prices in different countries.

For instance, here’s the price of a pay-per-view fight in the US.

“Due to broadcast restrictions, this video is not available within a UFC FIGHT PASS subscription or as a pay-per-view in your region. Please check your local TV listings for viewing information.”

That means you’ll have to find your country’s local rights holder, sign up, and pay for the fight (again). These local providers often grant a lesser experience than UFC.tv, such as a poor user interface or worse video quality. In France, for example, there’s Kombat, while in Germany there’s Ranfighting. Never heard of them? Neither have we.

Another problem with third-party broadcasters is they don’t allow users to watch replays on demand. A fight taking place in the evening in the United States may not start until 5 a.m. in Europe, which isn’t exactly prime time. UFC.tv allows subscribers to watch replays at their leisure, but local rights holders rarely have this option.

How to bypass UFC blackouts with a VPN or smart DNS

If ordering a pay-per-view fight that you’ve already paid for from a company you’ve never heard of (and possibly in a language you don’t understand) doesn’t appeal to you, we have a better solution.

A VPN or smart DNS provider can trick the UFC.tv website into thinking you’re located in the US, thereby bypassing the blackout. These tools act as proxies through which some or all of your internet traffic is re-routed, assigning you a new IP address and spoofing your device’s location.

We recommend using a paid service to avail of speeds fast and reliable enough to stream live video. It’s not free, but it’s almost definitely cheaper than ordering the fight on pay-per-view. A few VPNs, such as ExpressVPN, have money-back guarantees in case you want your money back after fight night ends. In addition to the money-back guarantee Express VPN currently has 3 months extra free with 12 month plans.

The process for watching with a VPN is simple:

  1. Sign up, download, install, and log into your VPN app
  2. Select a server in the United States or anywhere else the fight is not blacked out. Geographically closer servers will be faster.
  3. Connect to the server and wait for the connection to be established.
  4. Load the UFC.tv website or app, log in with your Fight Pass credentials, and start watching!

And for a smart DNS proxy:

  1. Sign up for a smart DNS subscription, Overplay works well.
  2. On the provider’s website, find the primary and alternate IP addresses for the DNS servers in the location you want
  3. Change your device’s default DNS servers to the new ones according to the smart DNS provider’s instructions
  4. Restart your device
  5. Log into UFC.tv with your Fight Pass credentials and start watching!

The process works for live streaming pay-per-view fights as well, though you might have to choose a server location in the same place as the pay-per-view provider.  Generally speaking, VPNs are simpler to set up, but smart DNS proxies work on a wider range of devices.

Alternatively, you can opt for watching UFC on Kodi, although be sure to check legality of the content you stream. Many Kodi stream are unofficial and breach copyright laws.

Why does the UFC black out fights?

To put it simply: greed.

The UFC can make more money by licensing out content to other providers, who resell the same broadcast, than by selling individual Fight Pass subscriptions and pay-per-view orders. Fracturing the market among these providers is more profitable for the UFC, but worse for the consumer.

When the UFC signs over the broadcast rights to a broadcaster in another country, it agrees that it won’t double dip. That is, it won’t compete with the broadcaster it just sold the rights to. Thus, blackouts are the solution.

If it wanted, the UFC could refrain from geographic content licensing and simply keep all of its streams and broadcasts under one in-house umbrella. This is how the WWE, which uses a similar model, is available in almost every country at the same price with no blackout restrictions.

Vuelta a España 2019 Live

Richard Carapaz will not race the Vuelta a España after he crashed days before the opening stage.

The Giro d’Italia winner fell last Sunday (August 18), according to his Movistar team, and suffered shoulder injuries.

Carapaz was due to be one of three potential leaders for the Spanish team at the Vuelta, but the crash has taken him out of the race.

Tour de l’Avenir releases footage of Tom Pidcock’s crash

The Ecuadorian suffered a number of injuries, including bruises to his shoulder.
The team then added: “Movistar confirms Thursday that Richard Carapaz will not start the 74th edition of the Vuelta a España , which starts on Saturday in Alicante.

“In spite of the treatment received since then and the absence of fractures, the evolution of the lesions advises a greater precaution for its total restoration, so he will not take part in the race.”

Carapaz emerged as the unexpected winner of the Giro d’Italia this year, bringing to an end Movistar’s drought in three-week races.

The 26-year-old had been holding well on the opening two weeks of the race, along with Spanish team-mate Mikkel Landa.
